Himachal Pradesh government is making continuous efforts to develop milk production business in its state. For which a scheme is being operated since 2010 to provide various types of benefits to the cattle farmers and milk entrepreneurs associated with the milk business sector. Whose name is Doodh Ganga Yojana. Through Doodh Ganga Yojna, loans up to Rs 30 lakh are made available to citizens involved in milk production at very low interest rates. So that small dairy farming of the state can be converted into organized developed dairy business.

Doodh Ganga Yojana is sponsored by Himachal Government to provide loan up to Rs.30 lakh to farmers/animal farmers/milk entrepreneurs engaged in milk production sector in their state. This scheme was started in 2010 by the Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of India as Dairy Venture Capital Scheme through National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). In the initial phase, the name of Doodh Ganga Yojana was Doodh Ganga Project (Dairy Venture Capital Fund) with the provision of giving interest free loans. But later its form was changed and its name was changed to Doodh Ganga Yojana (Entrepreneurship Development Scheme) through which subsidy is now provided on loan amount instead of giving interest free loan.

Doodh Ganga Yojana will bring modernization in the milk production activities in the state. With the help of which cattle farmers working with traditional techniques can be connected with modern machinery techniques. Through this scheme, a target of 350 lakh liters of milk production has been set in the state every year.

Loan Details Under Dhoodh Ganga Yojana

  • For 2 to 10 milch animals, a loan of up to ₹ 500000 is made available to the cattle rearing farmers.
  • Loan up to Rs 4.80 lakh is provided for rearing 5 to 20 calves.
  • Vermi compost (if attached with the units of milch cows) is provided to them as loan of Rs.0.20 lakh.
  • A loan of Rs 18.00 lakh is given for milking machine, milk tester, large milk cooler unit (up to 2000 litres).
  • A loan of Rs 12.00 lakh is provided for units making indigenous products from milk.
  • Loans up to Rs.24 lakh are given to cattle farmers for transportation of milk products and cold chain facility.
  • For cold storage i.e. cold storage of milk and milk products, farmers can get loan up to Rs 30 lakh.
  • The loan arrangements for private veterinary units are as follows.
  1. 2.40 lakh loan for mobile unit
  2. Loan up to Rs.1.80 lakh for permanent unit
  3. Loan up to Rs 0.56 lakh is made available by the government to the beneficiary farmers and livestock farmers for the construction of booths to sell milk products.

Subsidy to be provided under Doodh Ganga Yojana

Through the Himachal Pradesh Doodh Ganga Yojna, loans are provided at reasonable interest rates to the cattle farmers and farmers of the state for doing milk business. The subsidy is provided to the beneficiaries by the government on the amount of this loan. This subsidy amount is based on the loan taken which is 33% to ST/SC category beneficiaries, 25% to general category beneficiaries. In addition, additional subsidy is also provided by the state government. Which is given 20% on buying country cow / buffalo and 10% on buying Jersey cow.

50% interest rate rebate for self help group

A loan of up to ₹ 300000 is provided by the government through Dhoodh Ganga Yojana 2022 to self-help groups to set up a dairy farm of 10 animals. They are given a rebate of 50% interest rate on this loan amount. That is, the self-help group has to pay the interest rate only on a loan of Rs 1.5 lakh. This additional interest rate rebate is provided to the SHG people so that more and more SHGs of the state can be encouraged to set up quality dairy farms.

A center will be set up for dairy farms and training in the state

Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Minister Virendra Kanwar ji has said that now under the Doodh Ganga Yojana, a dairy farm and a center for training will be set up to modernize dairy farms in Himachal Pradesh. He has also informed that the Central Government has given approval for the construction of modern dairy farms and training centers at many places in the state. Dairy firms to be created through this center will have the facility to keep 400 milch animals with modern machines. Apart from this, training will also be provided to veterinary officers and other employees in these firms. So that he can help the farmers in animal husbandry.

Purpose of Doodh Ganga Yojana

The main objective of starting this scheme is to convert the small dairy farming industries of Himachal Pradesh into big dairy farming business. For which people associated with dairy farming are provided loans up to Rs 30 lakh at a reasonable interest rate through Doodh Ganga Yojana. Along with this, subsidy is also given to provide them financial assistance. Through this scheme, the people associated with the milk production sector of the state will be connected with modern techniques by getting rid of traditional techniques. As a result of which good quality milch animals can be prepared. Apart from this, the main objective of starting Doodh Ganga Yojana is to make 50 thousand rural families financially self-sufficient through 10 thousand self-help groups.

Benefits and Features of Himachal Pradesh Doodh Ganga Yojana

  • The scheme was launched by the Animal Husbandry Department of India through the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development as a dairy venture capital scheme.
  • This scheme has been started to convert small farming industries of Himachal Pradesh into big farming business.
  • Through the Himachal Pradesh Doodh Ganga Yojana, loans up to Rs 30 lakh are provided to the people engaged in milk production activities. These people are provided separately for different tasks.

Eligibility for application under Doodh Ganga Yojana

  • It is mandatory for the applicant engaged in milk production to be a permanent resident of Himachal Pradesh.
  • Individuals/self-help groups/non-government organizations/milk organizations/milk cooperative societies/companies etc. are eligible to avail the benefits of Doodh Ganga Yojana.
  • Apart from this, more than one member of a family by setting up their separate units at different places are eligible to avail benefits under this scheme but their installed units should be at least 500 meters away from each other.
