There are many girls across the country who are unable to get married because of their financial condition. Various types of schemes are run by the government for all such girls. Himachal Pradesh Shagun Yojana is also operated by the Himachal Pradesh government. Through this scheme, financial assistance is provided to the economically weaker girls of the state.

This scheme has been launched by the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Jai Ram Thakur. Through this scheme, an amount of ₹ 31000 will be provided as marriage grant to the girls of BPL families of the state. This scheme will be operated across the state from April 1, 2021. The announcement to launch this scheme was made while announcing the budget 2021-22. To take advantage of Himachal Pradesh Shagun Yojana, it can be done by the parents or guardian of the girl child and in case of desperation, by the girl herself, the child project officer, in-charge of Nari Seva Sadan or Balika Ashram can be done in the prescribed form. After applying, the verification of the application will be done by the official. Approval under this scheme will be given by the program officer of the district.

Himachal Pradesh Shagun Yojana Budget

The application under this scheme can be made 2 months before the marriage or even within 6 months of the marriage. The benefit amount will be paid after the acceptance of the application. The benefit amount will be directly transferred to the applicant’s bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer. A budget of Rs 50 crore has been set by the government for the implementation of this scheme. The benefit of Himachal Pradesh Shagun Yojana will be provided to the girl child of poor family even if she marries outside Himachal Pradesh. To get the benefit of this scheme, the age of the bridegroom should be 21 years and the age of the bride should be 18 years or more.

The main objective of Himachal Pradesh Shagun Yojana is to provide financial assistance on the marriage of girls living below poverty line. Through this scheme, the girl child of the state will become strong and self-reliant and their standard of living will also improve. Himachal Pradesh Shagun Yojana has been announced by the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. The amount provided under this scheme will be provided in the form of grant. This amount can be received by the parents of the girl child. If the girl child does not have parents or guardian, then the girl herself can also apply under this scheme. This scheme will prove to be effective in the direction of women empowerment.

• Applicant girl should be a permanent resident of Himachal Pradesh.
• To get the benefit of this scheme, the age of the bridegroom should be 21 years and the age of the bride should be 18 years or more.
• The girl’s name should be registered on the e-district portal.
• Applicant should be from BPL family.
• Widow women are also eligible to get the benefit of this scheme.
