The program, whose implementation coincided with the end of Mr. Patnaik’s fifth term’s fourth year, will assist all families who were excluded from the existing housing programs due to strict eligibility requirements or insufficient funding, as well as those who previously received housing assistance of a lower amount and are now looking to upgrade or expand their homes. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik presided over the Cabinet meeting where the decision was made. The State Government of Odisha accepted 18 proposals establishing Mo Ghara (Government Housing Assistance in Rural Areas), a new housing program, in anticipation of the 2024 elections, a week after the Cabinet change that added three new ministers to the Council of Ministers in Odisha. The State Government would give money under the “Mo Ghara” Yojana in the Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Department to lower and lower-middle-class households in rural areas to satisfy their aspirations.

Mo Ghara Yojana Odisha Objective

The State Cabinet approved a new housing program named Mo Ghara to offer financial support to rural Odisha households with lower and lower-middle incomes in order to realize their housing aspirations. The program will cover all such families who were excluded from the current housing programs due to strict eligibility requirements or insufficient funding.

Eligibility for Mo Ghara Yojana

Families living in kutcha houses or pucca houses with pucca roofs will be eligible for the loan.
Those with a monthly income of less than ₹ 25,000 and those who have received housing assistance of ₹ 70,000 or less in the past will be considered for loans under the ‘Mo Ghar’ scheme.
The applicant must not have previously received government housing assistance for any program.
The family owns a non-commercial four-wheeler for personal use.
There should be no government officials in the family.

The main feature of this scheme is that the beneficiary can get a home loan of up to 3 lakhs which can be repaid within 10 years easily excluding the grace period of one year. They can choose any of the four categories of loan amount – Rs. 1 lakh, Rs. 1.5 Lakh Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 3,00,000.
