Delhi Female Cab Drivers Scheme 2024

Government of Delhi has decided to start a scheme for women. Under the Delhi Female Cab Drivers Scheme they will get adequate training and financial assistance to become a professional taxi driver. The Delhi government is focused on getting inputs from the residents of Delhi, and since women have shown interest in becoming cab drivers in several online forums, it has taken steps to help them. Under this initiative, the Delhi government will pay 50% (approximately Rs 4,800) of the training cost of each woman. For the remaining 50%, the government will look for fleet owners and aggregators. The administrations of Burari, Loni and Sarai Kale Khan will set up in-house Driving Instruction Centers where professional training will be provided.

The scheme not only provides training to the recipients but also guarantees employment in the firms. As per the government’s training programme, vehicle owners and organizers will pay the remaining 50 per cent of the training cost for women seeking driving jobs in such organisations. The transport department will soon request EOIs from automakers and aggregators. This will let them know how many women have trained in similar programmes.

• Under this scheme, the financial benefit will be 50% from the state government and 50% from private fleet owners and aggregators.
• In conjunction with app-based aggregators, Delhi will provide free driving lessons to 1,000 women.
• As more employment opportunities the government will try to approach private firms and request those who need women drivers.
• Under the program women can get vehicle training not only for cabs and taxis but also for big trucks. So far 75 women drivers have been trained under this scheme. Additionally, 35 women have obtained MMV licenses for heavy vehicles. At present, five women are being trained as bus drivers at the DTC training facility.
• Under this scheme, the Delhi government has also eased certain norms and eligibility requirements to employ more women as bus drivers.
• Due to the presence of qualified female drivers, passengers can pick up a female or male driver while ordering a taxi.
• The scheme has made it easier for women to get jobs in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS), which have a transport fleet of around 7300 buses.
• Under the Delhi Mahila Yojana, women will be trained to drive Delhi government buses for public transport. 76 women have completed the program, and 35 have HMV licenses.
