Rabi Crops Minimum Support Price 2024-25
UPDATE : Good News !! Farmers will now get cheap fertilizers. The central government has approved fertilizer subsidy of Rs. 51,875 crore on phosphatic and potassic fertilizers for Rabi crops. Nitrogen will be available at Rs 98.02 per kg, Phosphorous Rs 66.93 per kg, Potash Rs 23.65 per kg, Sulfur Rs 6.12 per kg. Government has updated Revised MSP for Year 2023-24. Minimum Support Price is the minimum price for any crop that the government provides to the farmers. The crop cannot be bought by the government at a price below this price. The crop is procured by the government at the lowest price. At present, the Minimum Support Price on 23 crops is paid by the Central Government. In which 7 cereals (Paddy, Wheat, Maize, Bajra, Jowar Ragi and Barley), 5 Pulses (Chana, Arhar, Urad, Moong and Lentil), 7 Oilseeds (Rapeseed-Mustard, Groundnut, Soyabean, Sunflower, Sesame, Safflower Nigerseed) and 4 commercial crops (cotton, sugarcane, copra and raw jute).
Minimum Support Price ensures a subsidized price for farmers and consumers. Based on the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices, MSC is announced every year by the government for agricultural crops like cereals, pulses, oilseeds and commercial crops after consideration by the respective state governments and central departments.

Minimum Support Price is provided on 25 major agricultural crops
At least 50% return on cost of production is ensured for the farmers through MSP. Apart from this, farmers are free to sell their crops to non-government parties if they get favorable conditions to sell their produce or get a better price than the MSP. This scheme was started in 1966. MSP for 25 major agricultural crops is announced by the government every year. In which 14 crops are included in Kharif season and 7 crops in Rabi season. 2.04 crore farmers have been benefitted through this scheme in 2023-24. This scheme was started with the aim of getting the farmers the right price for their crops. Through this scheme, farmers across the country will become empowered and self-reliant and their standard of living will also improve.
Main objective of minimum support price
Minimum Support Price has been started with the aim of getting the farmers the right price for their crops. A minimum price is fixed by the government for about 25 crops. The price below which the crop cannot be bought. This scheme will prove to be effective in getting the farmers the right price for their crops. Apart from this, farmers will also become empowered and self-reliant through this scheme. The Minimum Support Price Scheme will also prove effective in improving the standard of living of the farmers. Apart from this, the crop will also reach the consumers at the right prices. This price is declared every year by the government based on the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices.
